yes, I prayed for snow

With the low gas prices and a new car (used '09 Toyota Corolla!), we decided to make the 26-hour road trip to Nebraska to spend Christmas with Jason's family. Now, I love a good road trip, but we were worried about the weather and how Emily would do stuck in the car 13 hours at a time. Twice. The roads were great, except for some ice in Colorado (but the scenery was beautiful!) Emily did okay, thanks to a borrowed DVD player (I love you Shawna!) and Cinderella (at least 20 times...), despite a little carsickness on the first day (which a few days later came back as the stomach flu). Emily and Brady were hit the hardest with the bug, and spent the whole week sleeping, barfing, and looking glazed over. I was so disappointed that the kids couldn't share their fun and playful personalities. They did perk up every now and then, but it just didn't do them justice!
We finally got a white Christmas, and went sledding in Tori's neighborhood. It wasn't fluffy snow, however. It was ice. Slippery, slidey, fall on your butt ice. Cheryl crawled up the hill rather than risk a fall. The wind chill factor was 2 degrees. That's Greg in the background bailing with Sam and Tim :) Jason and I went down in the baby pool first, but when we rode on the sled, we got a crazy ride!
Watch the video to see me come within *two inches* of being schallacked by a tree. I was sliding on my back heading straight for it VERY fast, with absolutely no control. I think sheer willpower kept me from hitting it. We were all laughing so hard that I came that close!

Emily is really getting into the Midwest culture.
Jason was a total stud and helped the kids put on the Nativity story while he read it out of the Bible. Gabe and Savannah were Joseph and Mary, with Brady's new rocking horse as the donkey.
Ashley proclaims as the angel,
while shepherds Sierra and Chris are scared by the angel (quite loudly).Ranger even made the trip with Jon and Brady!
On our way through Wyoming I drove through some really creepy-yet-beautiful blowing snow. It was difficult driving through the strong winds, but I pulled a 5-hour stint, which impressed Jason and he can no longer complain about my lack of endurance!

We had a beautiful white christmas too!! Sadly everyone but Karen got sick, but we didn't let that stop our fun. We went horseback riding and inner tubing. On my only ride by myself, I went so fast that I couldn't stop (yes I should have just rolled off, but I didn't) and I hit a car. When I post about the trip, I will include a photo

If the snow is being blown across the road (like your picture) it's called a ground blizzard. At least that's what a highway patrol called it when we were pulled over in Wyoming last winter. Jared got a warning for driving too fast for the "road conditions". You're right it is creepy but beautiful.

What a wonderful memory especially for Larry and Marlene to have all of you together with them - I'm so happy you could go. Great family pictures!!

Don't ever feel bad about praying for snow. I miss it terribly, which is weird because I didn't care for it all that much when we lived in Idaho.

Love the pictures! I am glad I found your blog. I've enjoyed catching up with you and Jason.

Lots of love,
Becca

I'm glad we got to see you guys as you were passing through - even if it was for a couple of hours. Next time you come up we are going to go on a D.I. shopping binge! I promise. TTFN.
